20 year old Jamaican midfielder Tarania Clarke was reportedly stabbed to death on Thursday night at half-way street, st. Andrew in the capital of Kingston during a fight with another woman over a phone.
Clarke, a midfielder and captain of the Water House FC made her senior international debut for the Reggae Girls in September scoring in a thrilling 12-1 win victory over Cuba in an Olympic qualifying match.
Police officials confirmed her death on the spot and also said they had detained the unidentified woman who was in a fight with the deceased.
The Jamaican Football Federation (JFF) confirmed the news about the three time capped international on twitter "we express our deepest condolences to her family and friends during this very challenging time. Jamaican's female football suffers a significant loss as she was a very talented player"
Michael Ricketts, President of the Jamaica Football Federation, added: “The Jamaica Football Federation is indeed deeply saddened by the untimely passing of young Ms Clarke, someone who would have shown so much promise, not just as a player but as a person.
Xavier Gilbert, Clarke’s coach at Excelsior high school, told Jamaica-based cable TV station SportsMax that she was planning on moving to the United States in January to attend university in Florida pending the completion of her paperwork.
“We were very close. She was captain for the last three years and was a wonderful leader, a wonderful person,” he told the network. “It hurts right now. It’s really sad. She did not deserve this. This really rough right now"
